When Lawrence was a young man he worked at Will Wright's Store in Montgomery Center. He later operated a store of his own in Eden, Vermont for about 20 years. He also served as Postmaster there.

Lawrence and Alberta moved to West Lincoln, Vermont and finally to Bristol, Connecticut where Lawrence worked at General Motors until he retired in 1961.

Alberta died at the Bristol Hospital on May 27, 1969 after a brief illness. She was 74 years old.

Lawrence was found dead in the backyard of his home in Bristol on December 17, 1973. He apparently had a heart attack. Lawrence was 77 years old. He and Alberta are buried in Bristol, Connecticut.
