Gibson attended Lyndon Institute for a couple years. He graduated from Bristol High School in 1941 at Bristol, Vermont. He also lived in West Lincoln, Vermont for a time.

Gibson married Marjorie Ladue in Bristol, Connecticut on January 1, 1944. They had two sons: Gerald Louis and John Wesley. Gibson lived in Bristol for 51 years and worked for Chandler Evans Company in West Hartford for 34 years, retiring in 1985.

Gibson died at the Bristol Hospital October 24, 1992 at the age of 69. He is buried at the Forestville Cemetery, Forestville, Connecticut.
