Emile married Esther Perrier, sister to Samuel's wife, Betsy. They bought a farm in Montgomery Center, Vermont and lived there for many years. They were active members of the Baptist Church. They had a family of six children. Their eldest daughter, Eda, was born in 1884 and died in 1887 at the age of three from unknown causes. In 1913 their son, Harold, took over the farm and they moved to a farm in Coventry, Vermont to be near Samuel and Betsy. It was here he had a serious accident while working with a threshing machine. On October 2, 1919, he fell from a ladder onto the apron of the machine. His right hand was caught in the beater and before the machine could be shut off, his entire arm was taken off between the elbow and shoulder. He was pulled from the machine by his son, Henry. He was rushed to the hospital while Samuel and Harvey rode along to comfort him.

In 1924, Emile and Esther went to California with the thought of perhaps staying there permanently. However, after a year they decided to return to Montgomery Center. They spent their latter years in a small house above the farm.

Esther was born October 26, 1856 at St. Constantine, Quebec. She died on her wedding anniversary, October 14, 1947, 68 years after marrying Emile.
