Elizabeth "Betty" Corrette Samson also graduated from the University of Vermont in 1931 with her sister, having skipped a grade somewhere along the line. She taught for a total of five years, first in a one-room schoolhouse in Milton, Vermont where she met her future husband, Kenneth Lawton Jackson, a self-made businessman, a farmer, lumberman, and builder, who was also active in local politics. She then got a better position teaching in Coventry and was happy to be near her parents who needed her due to her father's poor health and other problems. They were married on September 1, 1936 and moved into a new home in West Milton where three daughters were born: Mary-Jane, on October 15, 1937, Faith, on December 28, 1943 (she died hours after her birth), and Virginia Corrette on December 26, 1946. They moved to another new home which Mr. Jackson completed in Colchester about 1949. They started wintering in Bradenton, Florida in the late 1950's eventually selling their home in Vermont and enlarging their "camp" on the lakeshore in South Hero for their summers. Elizabeth was baptized Baptist and Kenneth, Congregationalist, during adulthood. They were able to celebrate 50 years of marriage. Mr. Jackson died on October 6, 1986. Mrs. Jackson soon moved to St. Petersburg, Florida to be near her daughter and passed away on January 10, 1990. They are buried in Milton.
