Arnold was educated in the Fitchburg Public Schools. He graduated from Colgate University in Hamilton, New York as well as Newton Center Theological Seminary. He was ordained as a minister in Lowell in 1924. He married Irene Grimset on June 30, 1925 in a ceremony performed by his father.

Arnold was pastor of churches in Lowell, North Billerica, North Abington, Haverhill, and Waltham, all located in Massachusetts.

Arnold and Irene had two daughters, Janet and Carol.

Arnold died January 5, 1961 and Irene died February 3, 1993. They are both buried in Lowell, Massachusetts.
