Chester worked on his father's farm in Paxton, Massachusetts as a young man. In 1920, he started "Rossier's Market" on Richards Avenue in Paxton. He and Ruth also had the Paxton Post Office in the store until 1955. Their son, Donald, also worked in the store.

Chester and Ruth were members of the First Congregational Church in Paxton.

Chester died in the Holden Hospital in 1973 at the age of 81. Ruth died at the Holden Nursing Home at age 83. They are both buried in the Center Cemetery in Paxton, Massachusetts.
