Harriet was educated in the Fitchburg and Lowell schools. She attended Gordon College in Boston and graduated from Lowell State Teacher's College. She taught school for 23 years. Harriet married Henry H. Ryder on August 27, 1930. The ceremony was performed by her father. Two sons were born to them, Harry and Milton.

Henry worked for the YMCA serving in administrative positions in Lowell, North Arlington, Exeter, New Hampshire, and Brockton, Massachusetts. He died in 1978 in Hamilton, Massachusetts and is buried in Lowell, Massachusetts. Harriet was the last living grandchild of Rev. J.D. Rossier. She celebrated her 96th birthday on August 28, 2001. She died in Lancaster, New Hampshire
