He came to Canandaigua, New York in 1871 and worked on the DeWitt Farm on West Lake Road. He also worked on the Tichenor Farm for a time. In 1880, he married Catherine Fitzgibbons who was born in 1846. She came from Ireland with her father who was a priest. He died on the way over and left her an orphan. Henry and Catherine lost a baby girl named Faith, but in 1884 they had their only other child, a girl named Louise. In 1890 they purchased a farm in Canandaigua, New York. The farm is located on what is now known as the Rossier Road. The farm house built in 1864 had an attractive Colonial style of architecture.
