Virginia married Alan Keith. They lived in Skaneateles, New York and had three children: Alan, David, and Kathy. They later moved to Holland, Michigan where Alan was an Executive Vice-President for Haworth, Inc., a manufacturing company that made office furniture.

Virginia and Alan were killed on Thanksgiving Day in 1987. They had a private plane and were flying to Skaneateles to visit their sons for the holiday. The plane crashed and burned when he attmepted to land at the airport. They also had two friends from Holland with them. All four people were killed. Virginia and Alan's two sons were at the airport waiting for their arrival. The crash was about 12:30pm. It was determined, after an investigation, that icing on the wings of the plane probably caused the crash. Virginia was 57, Alan was 59.
