Earl was born July 12, 1908 in La Prairie, Quebec. He went to school in Montgomery Center and Newport. He graduated from Newport High School in 1928. He also went to an accounting school in Boston, Massachusetts for two years. He worked at several odd jobs during the depression years. He married Lillian Emerson on June 26, 1932. In 1940, he moved to Bristol, Connecticut where he worked at New Departure and General Motors. He went in to the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served two years. In 1946, he went to photography school which enabled him to get a job as an industrial photographer for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Connecticut where he worked until his retirement in 1985. He also worked after his retirement making negatives for off-set printing.

His wife, Lillian, died September 17, 1990 and is buried in Newport, Vermont. Earl and Lillian were members of the Bristol Congregational Church and the Bristol Art League. Their only child is Crystal, born August 15, 1947. She is unmarried. She lives in St. Paul, Minnesota and Earl now lives with her.

Crystal is a graduate of the University of Vermont in Burlington. She also attended St. Michaels for a year. She teaches music at a school in St. Paul and is also a member of the Good Shepherd Church.
