Guy Eugene know as Gene served in the U.S. Army during World War I. He was discharged due to heart and kidney problems. He was unable to work and lived with his folks until he died. His pension was a help to aid John and Elsie to meet living expenses. It must have been a shock and an increased hardship when President Hoover cancelled military pensions during the Great Depression. Gene was only a middle aged man when he passed away.
