Children:       Clarence Evans, Jr.

Clara received her education at Feller Institute, Cobbs Institute of Athens, Georgia, and schools in Massachusetts. She taught French in a girls' school near Worcester, MA. She met and married Professor Clarence Evans who taught at an institute in Worcester. He was also a pastor in the Methodist Church. They had one son named Clarence, Jr.

Mr. Evans was much older than Clara, and after about 15 years of marriage, he passed away. Being only a middle-aged woman, Clara returned to teaching for almost 10 years. She later developed cataracts in her eyes and had to give up her occupation. After this, her life became rather unpleasant. She tried to earn a little money tutoring French students, but the income was very meager. Her eyesight continued to fail and she had to depend on help from her son and other relatives to stay alive. She moved in with her son and daughter-in-law, but the situation did not work out so she moved in with her half-sister. Her son and her brothers sent her money when they could, but times were hard and they had little to spare. She spent most of her life living with relatives in Vermont, Massachusetts, and California. Clara lived to be over 90 years old. Her later years were spent in blindness with her half-sister, Alice, in California.
